Seven Amazing Facts About Pellet Grilling

We love pellet grilling for a variety of reasons, and are always learning new techniques and tips for using our pellet grills.  Whether you are a beginner pellet grill user or are a die-hard pellet grill aficionado, there is always more to learn! Here are 7 fun tips and facts about what your pellet grill can do!

Set It and Forget It

Using your pellet grill instead of another cooking method can save you time.  With a full hopper and the right grill, you can run up to 40 hours of smoke time! Large cuts of meat or bulk cooking for large parties is easy with pellet grilling.  Of course you wouldn’t want to be completely hands off for 40 hours, but with the help of a wireless thermometer and the right cut of meat, you can let the grill do almost all the work for you while you focus on other things – or even while you’re at work!

Smoke Foods Overnight

Trying to time out your menu, or problem solve how you will have that pulled pork ready in time for dinner? Thanks to the set it and forget idea above, you can get a lot of cooking done while you sleep! That 8-10 hours between bedtime and the time you need to leave for work in the morning is a perfect time to do some batch cooking for a whole week’s worth of lunch or dinners.  Pellet grilling is so easy you can do it in your sleep!

Pellet Grilling is Cost Effective

There is no denying that pellet grilling results in more flavorful and juicy BBQ foods compared to other types of BBQing.  Gas, charcoal and electric grills are fine sometimes, but when it comes to smoking food, pellet grilling is less expensive than other types of grilling with a smoker box.  Better BBQ at the least expensive price? No wonder so many people are making the switch to pellet grills.

BBQ All Year Round

There is no pellet grilling season! Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, you can use your pellet grill! You may have to shovel a path through the snow to your pellet grill or use a bit of insulation to hold in the heat if it’s excessively cold, but there is no reason to close your grill for the season.

Let’s be smart here… there is one type of weather where you may want to avoid pellet grilling – lightning.  You may not want to be out there standing near or handling a giant metal pellet grill in the middle of a lightning storm.  Give it some time to let it blow over, then you can get out there to start your pellet grill and pile in your favorite recipes. Another bonus of pellet grilling being mostly hands off, you can for the most part stay out of the elements!

Cold Smoke Device

Do you love the flavor or smoked cheese, nuts or spices? It is so easy to make your own by cold smoking with your pellet grill! A quick cold smoke of ingredients imparts a special smoky flavor, and it is so easy to do.  Think cold smoking cheese for a grilled cheese sandwich, cold smoking spices for extra layers of flavor in your favorite BBQ rub recipe, or cold smoking ice cubes for an extra element in your favorite cocktail recipe.

Best Beef Jerky

Pellet grilling makes the best beef jerky! If you’ve tried making your own beef jerky before, BBQ beef jerky on the pellet grill is superior to any oven or dehydrator recipes.  Amazing smoked flavor, and tender meat, you’ll never go back to store-bought with this recipe! Jerky made from wild game such as venison is also great on the pellet grill.

Great Oven Substitute

Pellet grills work similarly to a convection oven – dry air circulating at steady temperatures around your food.  That being said, you can use the indirect heat of a pellet grill to “bake” all your favorite recipes! Cookies, cakes, pies, pizza and more are even better when baked in a pellet grill instead of an oven! Give your food extra flavor without heating up your entire house by using your pellet grill.  Even better, for holiday cooking when oven space is at a premium, move some recipes to the pellet grill and enjoy the light smoky flavor added to your recipes.

New or old to pellet grilling, there is always something to learn! We are frequently experimenting and trying new things. I like what you said about using pellets for smoking since you can let it run for up to 40 hours at a time. My brother has been telling me about how he wants to get into smoking meats soon. I’ll share this information with him so that he can look into his options for using pellets.
